Two-Year Associate's Degree Program
The Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst offers a two-year associates degree program in turfgrass management with a focus on hands-on field applications of principles and practices, and also personnel and business management. This major prepares students for employment in the rapidly growing green industry with emphasis on developing and managing grass areas such as home lawns, parks, athletic fields and golf courses. Classwork is coupled with practical work experience, as each student is required to complete a summer of cooperative work training.

Four-Year Bachelor's Degree Program
The UMass Department of Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences turfgrass management major is a four-year program that focuses on the production and maintenance of grassed areas, such as home lawns, parks, athletic fields, and golf courses. This concentration integrates scientific theory with practical experience, and covers such topics as grass and seed identification, turfgrass culture and physiology, pest control, and equipment maintenance. Excellent career opportunities exist in turf management, and job placement of graduates is approximately 100 percent.

Graduate Degree Programs
Opportunities exist within the UMass Department of Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences for an education in turfgrass management to the Ph.D level. A wide range of graduate research projects can be developed, each guided by a faculty member with research experience in the chosen area of study. Prospective students are encouraged to view faculty research profiles and begin a dialogue with prospective major professors before applying. All acceptances into the Division's Graduate program are contingent upon acceptance by the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Graduate School and upon a faculty member's willingness and availability to work with the student.
