UMass Extension currently offers two in-depth certificate programs for horticultural professionals.  These courses are ideal for those looking to advance in their profession but cannot schedule a two- or four-year degree program:

  • University of Massachusetts Winter School for Turf Managers
An intensive, 7-week full-time program. The dynamic curriculum is designed specifically for working professionals associated with the management of golf courses, athletic fields, parks, industrial, municipal and private grounds, fine lawns and landscapes.  The UMass Winter School was the first program of its kind and has a long and storied history.  Offered annually.

  • UMass Extension's Green School
A 60 plus-hour training program with classes one or two days per week in November-December. This course is designed for landscape, turf, and other horticultural practitioners wishing to gain an understanding of horticultural fundamentals and strategies and their relation to environmental quality. Students choose a specific educational track: Landscape Management, Turf Management, or Arboriculture. Offered bi-annually.
  • Invasive Plant Certification
Invasive plant management often reveals many new and unique challenges. This 4-day program is intended to help participants meet these challenges when attempting to develop an invasive plant management program as part of their business. Offered annually.
