New Tilling Method Aimed at Helping Farmers Cope with Weather
Farmers can’t change the weather, but they may be able to increase the chances of their crops succeeding in spite of weather like the region experienced this year.
The efforts to eradicate the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) from Massachusetts continue in the greater Worcester area, as well as in Jamaica Plain (Boston). New but small and isolated patches of ALB have been found within the past year within the Worcester Regulated Area but no new finds have occurred in Boston since the original find in July 2010.
UMass Amherst’s Joseph Troll Turf Research Center is the site of projects conducted by faculty from the University’s Department of Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences to help professional turfgrass managers maintain healthy playing fields, golf courses and home lawns in an environmentally sustainable manner.
